Light the Way: Juan's Story

katie5003

Just two months into 6th grade, Juan (name changed for privacy) was struggling in school. His grades were slipping, and he was acting up at home and at school. Juan's Middle School Program Manager, Ari, began regularly meeting with Juan's teacher and visiting him in the classroom. Together, they created an action plan to help Juan succeed. Seeing Ari's commitment, Juan started to change his attitude, putting more effort into his schoolwork and relationships.

Initially failing his class, Juan's hard work eventually raised his grade to a D—a significant improvement he proudly shared with Ari and the Hope Horizon team.

But Juan's growth didn't stop there. He began finding joy in serving at Hope Horizon, helping with tasks like moving tables and chairs during after-school programs and assisting younger students with reading. We are so proud of the way Juan now shines Jesus' light through his service and kindness to others.

“Over the past years that I’ve known Juan. I’ve seen Juan grow significantly, both academically and personally. He has become more confident in his abilities, taking on challenges with a positive attitude and showing greater responsibility in his work. His commitment to learning and his willingness to help others have made him a strong role model for his peers." Yazmin, Classroom Leader.

There are so many other students like Juan that need someone who cares. Because of your support, our staff is there to provide academic and spiritual support for students who need it most. Because of your investment, all of our students who come in below grade level in English and math are performing at or above grade level by the end of the school year.

“When I think about Juan, I think about David and Goliath. He has faced many challenges but with some teamwork from his family, Hope Horizon, church, and school, we have seen Juan grow into the young man he is today. He will make a great leader someday, just like David. He still faces challenges today, but I know that Juan has a caring support system that can help him to face those challenges and a God who loves him very much.” Leslie, Director of Spiritual Development.

As we enter this season of giving, we invite you to join us in lighting the way for more children like Juan. Your support nurtures their academic growth and fosters their spiritual journey, helping them discover their own potential and purpose.
