David’s Journey: A Story of Passion and Service

katie5003

At Hope Horizon East Palo Alto, we are constantly amazed by the way people connect with our mission to serve youth in East Palo Alto. One such story is that of David, a talented videographer who found us on LinkedIn and generously offered to use his skills to help capture the voices of our students and staff. He created a powerful video testimonial, highlighting the impact of our programs on the youth that you can view below.

Passion from a young age

David’s love for filmmaking began at a young age. He fondly recalls watching VHS tapes and taking his first trip to Universal Studios when he was 11 years old. That trip sparked a passion that grew into a lifelong pursuit. After studying cinema at San Francisco State, David honed his craft in photography and film, eventually becoming a visual arts staff member at the Riekes Center in Menlo Park, where he’s taught photography and film since 2018.

But David’s connection to East Palo Alto runs even deeper—his cousins grew up here, and he feels a strong tie to the community. His dream is to build an independent production company focused on authenticity, creating films, music videos, and commercials. With the Bay Area’s growing film industry, David sees a bright future here and wants to be a part of it.

When David reached out to us, it wasn’t just his skills that excited us—it was his heart for youth. He’s worked on personal projects at Synapse School, focusing on youth stories, and his desire to share his passion for video-making and photography with the next generation resonates deeply with our mission at Hope Horizon EPA.

Giving back in action

Recently, David came to campus and interviewed our students and staff, listening to their stories, and bringing them to life on screen. His enthusiasm for his work shines through, and we couldn’t be more grateful for his dedication and talent.

We know that many in our community have talents to share, and we want to invite you to join us. Whether you’re passionate about photography, tutoring, sports, or another area, there’s a place for you at Hope Horizon EPA.

Come volunteer with us and be part of this amazing community. Together, we can equip our youth with the tools they need to succeed and thrive.
